What are Chloramines?

Basically, chloramines are the by-product of mixing chlorine and amonia. Many municipalities are adding amonia to the already chlorinated water lines with the intent of eliminating bacteria. The issue with this is that the mixture causes chloramines which have the potential to be more toxic than chlorine, destroys standard water softener resin, has the potential to cause Trihalomethanes (THMs) to be present in the water, and a number of other potential health risks.
